Self-Sufficiency

About Category

The current situation is forcing us to consider self-sufficiency in different contexts and perspectives. We did not expect it while preparing the LongLife project. Before we take a closer look at the types of self-sufficiency as we initially perceived, we must be aware of the superior. It means the context of self-sufficiency, independence, freedom (yes, these are synonyms), social, economic and food self-sufficiency. Horribile dictu, military self-sufficiency too. We are facing challenges which the courses of and consequences we are able to neither predict nor estimate today ...

The self-sufficiency of a human as a physical unit, his/her ability to take care of him or herself, is one of the essential qualities which determines the quality of life of that individual. The quality of life lived not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The linguistics perceive self-sufficiency as a semantically transparent composite. It is also used by many other languages. Soběstačnost in Czech, die Selbsversorgung in German. Any contribution which enhances one's self-sufficiency is valuable. It can be a simple but meaningful thing, materialization of an idea, of the knowledge of the environment and human needs in a very wide range of activities. Today's emphasis on interpersonal communication is one of the thematic lines on which designers and manufacturers focus their efforts. The interest is actually aroused by important elements of self-sufficiency and self-care – preparing and consuming food, physical hygiene, the ability to transport oneself from place to another, movement in a designated space and self-care during various tasks, the possibility of calling for help in crisis situations. Everything with the omnipresence of incessant communication.
